Just for Kids "Hit the Road" Tours, Colorado History Museum, 1300 Broadway, Denver
Hit the Road is a week of exciting, daylong road adventures to some of our state's historic locations for kids, ages 8 to 12, offering the chance to learn about our state in a fun, relaxed summer camp atmosphere. Will Rogers: A Reel Retrospective exhibit, Colorado History Museum, 1300 Broadway, Denver
Will Rogers: A Reel Retrospective is a traveling exhibit of 72 framed original posters and lobby cards from the Gordon Kuntz Collection at the Will Rogers Memorial in Claremore, Oklahoma. The colorful, eye-catching posters represent 50 silent films and 21 "talkies" Rogers starred in between 1918 and 1935. Lobby cards from famous movies like Laughing Bill Hyde, Rogers' first movie in 1918 are also featured. Will Rogers: A Reel Retrospective, is part of a two-year long, eleven-city national tour organized by The Will Rogers Heritage, Inc., Claremore, Oklahoma. Call (303)866-3682 for more information.

Discover Denver Early Morning Walking Tours
Enjoy discovering the history of two of Denver's most historic districts in the cool and comfortable early hours of the weekend. Each tour is two hours long and will highlight the fascinating history of that district. The first and third Saturdays the tour will explore the Civic Center area, meeting at Panera Bakery and Cafe, 13th Avenue and Grant. On the second and fourth Saturdays participants will meet at the Common Grounds Coffee House 17th Street and Wazee to tour the LoDo area of downtown. A fee is charged. Quiltspeak: Stories in the Stitches exhibit opens, Colorado History Museum, 1300 Broadway, Denver
This beautiful exhibit features 40 striking traditional and contemporary quilts, tools used by the quilters to create their art and fascinating and educational interactive components.
The works of both male and female artists who have made the stitches come to life with stories of their heritage, culture and communities are shown. The old and new regional quilting techniques and traditions used by the diverse peoples of Colorado are explored, including African American, Native American, Hawaiian, Hispanic, Japanese, Italian, Jewish and Amish communities. Colorado River Canoe Trip, Rim Rock Ranch, Fruita
This trip covers a 31-mile stretch of spectacular canyon country featuring Ruby and Horse Thief canyons with their majestic walls of red sandstone. Anne Bond, director of Collections and Exhibitions at the Society, will lead participants on this gentle stretch of the river. The trek will offer ample time along the way for hiking into the canyons, swimming in the cool river or simply relaxing on its banks. A fee is charged. Quiltspeak Times Three Tour, Colorado History Museum, 1300 Broadway in Denver
Explore three different and unique quilt exhibits with their respective curators. The tour will begin at the Colorado History Museum where the exhibit curator, Alisa Zahller, will give an insider's view of Quiltspeak: Stories in the Stitches, highlighting many ethnic quilting traditions in Colorado. Participants will then visit the State Capitol and view the over 200 quilts on display in a collection highlighting the state's quilters. Walking Tour of the Whittier Neighborhood, Styles African-American Heritage Center, 2607 Glenarm, Denver
The Whittier areais one of Denver's oldest and the first to be integrated neighborhoods. Named after the abolitionist Civil War poet, John Greenleaf Whittier, the area is bounded by Downing, 23rd, Martin Luther King Blvd., and York. Development of housing started in the 1880s. White middle-income families occupied most of the homes but African- Americans, mostly employed by the railroads, lived there also. Experience the history, culture and traditions of 20th century settlers on the plains of Colorado. Auriel Sandstead, quilter and author, will lead the tour, talking about quilting traditions presented in the Quiltspeak: Stories in the Stitches exhibit, currently on view at the Colorado History Museum. The tour winds through Weld County, highlighting the prairie towns of Nunn, Ault, Briggsdale, Keota, Grover and the Pawnee National Grasslands. Also featured is the Sligo Cemetery, a well-preserved pioneer cemetery that poignantly illustrates the hardships of prairie life. Lunch in Grover is included in the fee.
