AAA Michigan contributed to this report. www.aaamich.com*-TravelBank.Com-*Weekly Snowmobile Trail Report December 6, 2002 Uncover your sleds snowmobilers! Cold temperatures and recent snowfall has created some areas for riding around the state, according to AAA Michigan (www.aaamich.com). Be sure to call ahead to your destination for the latest conditions before heading out. The northwest region has received a good snowfall but can be deceiving for snowmobilers. The trails are covered but the base is still minimal for the groomers to work with. Trails around Houghton Lake, Grayling, Gaylord and Higgins Lake all have a minimal snow cover ranging between 4-6 inches. Sledders are anxious to hit the trails in Kalkaska and Traverse City after a very substantial snowfall this past week. However, snowmobilers need to use caution, many hazards are apparent and groomers are reporting minimal snow on the trails, several trails are down to dirt. Around Boardman Valley the trails are groomed with snow cover ranging between 12-14 inches. Snow is in the forecast for this weekend, so sledders should call ahead to verify current conditions on specific trails. Cadillac sledders have been riding already, however groomers are not out as of yet due to minimal snow on the trails. Same story for folks riding around the Benzie area, a good snowfall but trails have minimal cover. Use caution.
