NEW BROADLANDS COMMUNITY IN BROOMFIELD
SITE FOR PARADE OF HOMES
DENVER, CO - The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Metro Denver's 1999 Parade
of Homes (POH) is scheduled to open at Broadlands, a new golf course community
in Broomfield, on Saturday, July 31, 1999 and will run through Labor Day,
Monday, September 6, 1999. This is the 13th annual Parade of Homes event and
the first Parade of Homes for Adams County. The event has been a fund-raiser
for Children's Hospital for the past 12 years; this year's event will also
benefit the Broomfield Community Foundation.
This year's Parade of Homes event showcases nine custom built homes, built in a
suburban setting on the third hole of an 18 hole public golf course. This
year's homes are priced from $600,000 to over $1.5 million and range from 3,600
to over 7,800 square feet. Some of the unique aspects to the homes are water
features incorporated into the landscaping, interesting use of natural stone and
custom tile and the latest in digital technology and energy efficiency.
"Each home's impressive style and majestic architecture lends to the luxurious,
high-end feel of this year's Parade of Homes experience," said Kathleen Kurtz,
director of operations for the HBA. "While at the same time, visitors can find
useful building interior and landscaping design ideas to incorporate into their
own homes."
Here are some of the highlights to the nine custom-homes at this year's Parade
of Homes:

During the first six months of construction every builder agreed to use energy
provided by Public Service Co.'s Windsource. Windsource is an environmental
alternative energy source that lets consumers and companies buy part or all of
their electricity from a wind "farm" constructed in northeastern Colorado. The
homes also had to be constructed with Built Green environmentally safe products,
which reduce energy costs and pollution and protect the earth's resources.
Broadlands is a beautiful suburban setting offering incredible views of the
mountains and numerous parks and hiking trails set within its residential
community. Broomfield's new technological growth and housing developments has
earned it the nickname of being the "Silicon Valley of the Rockies." Broadlands
is the first community in Colorado to be 100% wired with leading edge Digital
Subscriber Line (DSL) technology, which is the latest high-speed data and
phone service available today. The system includes $3 million worth of fiber
optic cabling and switching devices from U.S. West to each Broadlands' home.

The 42nd Annual Colorado RV, Sports, Boat & Travel Show with
hundreds of outdoor exhibits and dozens of recreational sports
experts returns March 3-7, 1999 to the National Western Complex,
located at I-70 at the Brighton Blvd. exit.
Log rolling lumberjacks, a rock climbing wall, a Trout pond,
virtual fishing, river rafting, four-wheeling, ice fishing and
much more will all be on hand at the largest outdoor recreation
event in the region. Visitors will see Colorado's largest display
of RVs, boats, outdoor products, vacation spots, travel tips and
expert presentations on fishing, hunting, wilderness survival,
game calling and dozens of other outdoor activities.
The Lumberjack Show features the Scheer Brothers, who have
been performing their blend of sports, history and comedy for the
past fifteen years. These modern Paul Bunyan athletes demonstrate
the century old logging skills of ax throwing, underhand chopping,
log rolling, cross cut sawing, hot sawing and pole climbing. The
Scheer Brothers have been featured on ABC's Wide World of Sports
and many other network and cable channel programming.
Dan Armitage, well-known writer and instructor, returns to
the Show with his presentations: Success on Ice and Fishing for
Kids. For the ice seminar, Armitage uses a special platform placed
over a fishing tank to simulate real ice. He demonstrates tackle
basics and the best techniques to use in the vertical presentation
needed for ice fishing. To complete the effect, he wears a red
flannel outfit and the actual floppy-eared prop hat Walter Matthau
wore ice fishing in the movie Grumpy Old Men. The ice fishing
seminars are scheduled daily at the show.
Fishing techniques will be demonstrated at the Hawg Trough, a
42-foot long glass demo tank where show guests can see fish strike
the lures.
A fully stocked trout pond where you keep what you catch will
benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This "Hook a Rainbow
for Jerry's Kids" program is a favorite spot each year for kids
and parents to feel the excitement of reeling in the year's first
catch, presented by Denver Jeep Chrysler Plymouth.

March 5 from 5 to 8 pm. The Colorado Open Elk Calling Contest will
